Packmetry

Identical-item grid planning

How many identical items fit in your box?

Enter one item and the carton's internal dimensions. Packmetry evaluates uniform, axis-aligned grids for each allowed item orientation and shows the best grid count found. This is not a claim of global maximum packing capacity.

Calculator

Estimate identical-item grid capacity

Try each permitted orientation in a uniform rectangular grid. The result is a constructible grid estimate, not a proof of the greatest possible number of items.

Carton internal dimensions
Identical item dimensions
Optional quantity comparison

Enter a requested item count to compare against this grid arrangement, or leave it blank.

Method

Count whole items along each carton axis.

For one allowed orientation, grid capacity is floor(internal length / item length) × floor(internal width / item width) × floor(internal height / item height). The calculator compares the permitted orientations and keeps the largest uniform-grid count.

Worked example

20 × 20 × 20 cm box, 5 × 5 × 5 cm items.

Four items line up along each of the three axes: 4 × 4 × 4 = 64 items in a uniform grid. Each item fits wholly inside the specified internal cavity. This simple equal-cube example yields 100% grid-volume utilization before packing allowances.

What the answer means

Grid fit is not guaranteed maximum fit.

The count describes a constructible pattern with the same item orientation throughout the grid. Other arrangements, including mixed orientations, may fit more items. A requested quantity above this grid count therefore does not prove the quantity is physically impossible to pack.

Limitations

No invisible clearance or handling promises.

Geometry uses internal carton dimensions only. The calculator does not add padding or spacing allowances, model fragility, stackability, weight limits or carton inventory. Use actual internal dimensions after any protective clearance needed for your product.

Compare estimates

Volume-only estimates answer a different question.

The box utilization calculator compares requested item volume with carton volume, but cannot establish a layout. This tool evaluates an actual uniform grid, though it still does not run the independent packing verifier.
